BEHIND THE IMAGES

About
Exposing Space

Hi! I'm an amateur astrophotographer, learning as I go and sharing what I capture along the way. I enjoy photographing distant galaxies and nebulae—and occasionally something a little closer, like the aurora.

I have a PhD in Astrophysics, during which I studied how galaxies naturally align with one another, and how this can affect attempts to map the matter in the Universe. I now work as a physics teacher, and I've been fascinated by physics, astronomy, and space for as long as I can remember.

When I'm not imaging, I enjoy trail running and spending time in the hills and mountains.

I started Exposing Space to keep a record of my progress and share my images with others. For me, a big part of the enjoyment is seeing what I can capture with the equipment I have, then learning how to bring out the details through processing.

Here you'll find the stories behind the images, including how I set up, the equipment and software I use, and what went well - or didn't! I'm still learning, so I hope sharing both the results and the mistakes will be useful to anyone curious about trying astrophotography themselves.

You don't need to know much about astronomy to explore the site. Whether you're interested in taking your own images or simply seeing what's out there, I hope you find something you enjoy.
